Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) is an evidence based program of the Center for Trauma and Embodiment at JRI. It is the only empirically validated yoga-based practice of its kind to have met the criteria for inclusion in the National Registry of Evidenced-based Programs and Policies (NREPP) in 2017. TCTSY is utilized as an adjunctive treatment for developmental and complex trauma; these conditions are sometimes referred to as complex or treatment resistant Post-traumatic Stress Disorder. TCTSY is facilitated by certified teachers who have completed the 300 HR certificate program through JRI.
TCTSY offers a predictable series of forms with choices of movement. Facilitators welcome participants to move when they are ready, to modify forms as necessary, and to pause in stillness if they choose. Direction is given verbally and physical assists are not used.
TCTSY invites a present moment experience which is physical and body based. Participants are asked to notice sensations, breathing patterns, and how they occupy space. TCTSY is available to all persons who have experienced trauma.
- TCTSY is adaptable to all ages and levels of physical ability
- TCTSY can be practiced on a mat or in a chair
- TCTSY is offered in private sessions OR group setting (see class schedule)
- Private sessions are offered in 30, 45, or 60 minute intervals
- Participants are encouraged to engage in clinical service or have access to a trauma spectrum support program
